Some people just have the knack of keeping plants alive. I don’t. The picture above shows the plants I’ve owned since coming to KL. Sad to say, only 2 are currently alive.
Yes.
Four out of six have died.
Yup.
Even cactuses cacti have died in my care.
The cactus in the first frame, named Cactoos, died on the way to Klang, when I first moved. My friend dropped him 3 times in the car that by the time he arrived, he was literally uprooted. Needless to say, he didn’t survive the replantation surgery.
The pink flowers in the next frame died during my 10-day Chinese New Year break. I could not find anyone to take care of it while I was gone, so I left it out in the open to be watered by God. Unfortunately, it didn’t rain much and the sun burnt it dry.
Next came the Three Cacti. They look like the Three Stooges, don’t they? Anyway, 2 of the 3 died while I was away doing the CRP project in Malacca. Alright, I admit. I was away for 2 whole weeks. But aren’t cacti meant to survive long periods of drought in the desert?
The plant in the last frame is the latest addition to my hall of doom. His name is Hijau. It’s not a cactus. I’ve given up on cacti. Whoever you are, if you’re reading this, could you please say a short prayer for my new plant? May it survive and live to a ripe old age.
Black fingers, I have.
