Today was a shitty day. And when I mean shitty, I mean really shitty. As the previous post indicates, today was a great day for us. However, to make matters worse, CN- noticed that the water in hostel smelled a little weird when she took her bath this evening. Weird…as in…shitty. I thought it was just a rumour, but when everyone started rushing to buy mineral water at the one and only mini grocery shop, we started to think that perhaps it was for real.

Anyway, we went out to buy our stock of water, and saw other people stocking up water too. When we got back, we were wondering how on earth were we to take out bath. Purple Chlorophyll’s sister claimed that the water at her residence was still unpoluted, but unfortunately when we arrived there, we found the water just as stinky, to our dismay. It turned out that PC’s sister had a blocked nose, so she could not quite detect the smell.

In the end, as a last resort, we ended up at Subang Jaya, where the water never smelled better. For once, OMHS came useful, as CN- suddenly noted that Subang Jaya (MPSJ) has its own town council which is separate from Petaling Jaya (MPPJ). Anyway, enough ranting for now. Gotta get back to prepare for a long day tomorrow…

Adieu…

Final year has somewhat officially started today. Not quite officially, as the REAL final years (fooji and gang) have not quite finished yet, but well…its the beginning of the final year for us. Pardon my messed up sentences, I’m still in a sort of daze after attending all the briefings from morning until evening.

We’ll be having 8 blocks of posting, back to back, with only a short break somewhere mid-year and another break during Hari Raya. So I guess the whole year ahead will be work, study, stress, work, study, stress, work, study, die.

Prof L said, “As final year students, you will now act as junior housemen, and you will clerk the patients, write the case notes into the case files (no more writing on pieces of scrap paper stuffed into various pockets of our labcoats etc), writing prescription, performing minor procedures…blah blah blah…”

*sudah pengsan*

After 3 months of blissful electives, and a somewhat uneventful OMHS trip to Port Dickson, (I meant to blog about the silly project and trip but as the start of h-e-l-l was impending, I was in no mood to blog about anything much) my life has somewhat been reduced to a daily routine of sleep, eat and relax. Kickstarting this very much frozen brain of mine would thus need a lot of effort as well as a very high voltage of electricity.

SIGH…

..
.

Boo hoo hoo hoo hoo…..!!!!!!

Watched the movie, read the book.

The movie was so-so, rather short, I must say. There were quite some things I didn’t fully understand, and a couple of things left hanging. However, it wasn’t as bad as some reviews said it was. Perhaps it was because I haven’t read the book yet.

As for the book, I’d just finished reading it yesterday. The book was definitely better than the movie. I also realised that some parts of the movie didn’t quite follow the storyline in the book, though the modifications were subtle. However, a lot of things were explained in more detail, especially the meaning to all the terms, such as danna, mizuage, obi etc.

All in all, it was a nice love story, I guess…

Sometime in Year 1, I had this weird argument debate with one of my coursemates about whether the default setting position for the toilet seat on the toilet bowl was supposed to be up or down.

He claimed that the correct position for the toilet seat is UP, and when girls needed to use it, they would have to put it DOWN and after that return it to the UP position. As far as I know, the toilet seat should be DOWN, and when guys need to use it, its up to them whether they prefer it UP or DOWN.

After all, have you ever entered a toilet in a hotel with the seat UP? I would think it looks rather unsightly, with those blocks of whatever-it-is showing up on the underside (though the newer seats nowadays may not have those blocks anymore). And besides, after googling for images on toilet bowls, I hardly found any with the seat UP.

Anyway, up to now, our debate has not reached a conclusion.

UP or DOWN? :S

How long a minute is depends on which side of the bathroom door you’re on…

I suppose that most people must have read in the papers about the recent theft that happened at UM. I, myself did not actually read about it in the papers but I’ve heard about it from a few of my friends during the CNY gathering we had a week ago.

When I got back to the UM, I was amazed to see the guards at the both the KL and PJ gate finally working. For 4 years, they have occasionally carried out spot checks once in a blue moon, about less than the number of fingers I have on my hand. My first thought was that it was a good thing that I finally managed to get the car sticker before I left for my elective.

As they wanted to make sure no one slipped in without a sticker, they closed the gate partially, so that only 1 car could pass at a time. As it took them almost forever to squint at the windscreen to see if one had a sticker or not, the queue to enter the uni was obviously long. So the next day, they came up with a brilliant idea, which was to open up two lanes instead; one for those with the stickers and another for those without. The only problem with that idea was that the signboard they erected was so tiny and so near the gate, that no one could really read what was written on it until one is actually right in front of the signboard. Thus, no one was really sure which lane to take, causing a similar queue in the middle of both the lanes. Silly, ain’t it.

The last straw was when my poor roomie and a few others were on the way back from Midvalley in a taxi. At the gate, the taxi was stopped, and everyone was required to show their Matric Card. Only 1 of them had it with her at that time (we usually wear out cards as name tags, so we wouldn’t be carrying it everywhere). The other four had their Kad Makan (Dining Card) as well as their computer lab cards, but it wasn’t accepted. Hey, how would anyone have those cards if they weren’t a student of the university?

The guard then made them get out of taxi before letting it through with only the girl with the matric card. It was already 10 pm at night and they were all stranded outside the gate. The guard just laughed at them and said, “You’ll probably have to sleep here by the streets tonight.” In the end, they had to walk to the nearest LRT station to catch another taxi to the entrance of UH, so that they could get to our hostel through the hospital and the faculty.

Seriously.

I wonder how long they will keep this up. Perhaps in 2 months time, it’ll be back to the days of the past, where people just drove in and out at any time of the day, without the guard even batting an eyelid.

This is something that doesn’t happen everyday…

I called upon a good friend of mine to help me buy a thumb drive with 256Mb storage space. A small, stylish one. He got me a PenDrive alright. Small, yeah. White but not stylish enough. However, I’m grinning from ear to ear coz it’s so cheap you wouldn’t believe it.

It’s price - RM80… for 512Mb storage!!!

Can you believe it? No, neither can I. The thing is that the salesman went to get him a new package after the deal was made. But he mistakenly gave my friend a 512Mb one instead of 256Mb.

Geez.. I know it’s sinful for me to be feeling so happy about this but then again…

Nyek nyek nyek :p

After a few days of excessive CNY merry-making and gluttony, relatives and friends begin to pack their bags and return to big cities one by one. Daily get-togethers with old friends has dwindled to about once or twice per day compared to the hectic round-the-clock sessions during the first few days of CNY. We shifted from several joint tables to just one or two tables in mamak stalls. The remainders are all college and university students who will be leaving Muar this coming weekend. We are expecting the heavy traffic on the north-south highway but we won’t mind it as long as it allows a little more time spent in our homes. We won’t be getting such a long break and opportunities to meet up with so many friends at one go in the near future. That probably gotta wait till the Christmas break of the next CNY.

As for me, I’ll be on my way back to KL this coming Sunday morning. For now, I’m in perfect denial - avoid checking the calendar and refusing to pack my bags. On another note, I miss the excitement and fun in KL. But it’s always sad to leave one’s hometown even though you’ve gone through the same thing for the thousandth time.

I wanna go back to KL. I don’t wanna go back to KL. I wanna go back to KL. I don’t wanna go back to KL.

*stops whining*

The scariest thing about going back to KL this time round is that - Jel and I are gonna be 5th (final) year medical students this Monday onwards!!! Geez…

*runs and hides*

This CNY is perhaps one of the very best in my 23 years of life. I enjoyed myself in all the usual CNY activities i.e. stuffing myself with loads of goodies and delicacies, drink myself silly but not too much, catch up and hang out with friends I haven’t seen or kept in touch with since Stone Age, spend time with family and relatives, admiring countless fireworks display in the night, dress up in my new year clothes and go house visiting, collect buckets and buckets of red packets, money counting at the end of each day, and many many many more.

All that makes a pleasant and enjoyable CNY. But these makes it better and then the best…

I was eating and feeling like I was gonna burst - It means I could chew and the food was going down my alimentary tract so smoothly without rejection. It means my appetite has returned. It means I’ve gotten well.

I was drinking and enjoying the taste of alcohol in my mouth and its effect over my body - It means I’m healthy and able to indulge in occasional shots of alcohol. It means I’m not abstaining from alcoholic beverages because I’m on medication which effects can be potentiated by alcohol. It means I’m lucky, at least for now.

I was meeting and having fun with friends and relatives whom I haven’t seen for a long time - It means I’m less reminded by my own pain that I’m actually enjoying other people’s company and wanting more of it. It means I’ve somewhat broken free from my own invisible enclosure and socializing easily like the old, original CN-.

I was spending an enormous amount of my time with my family and relatives, and enjoying every minute of it - It means I still care for my family and they are now the love of my life.

I enjoyed dressing up, go house visiting and collecting red packets - Not so much of vanity. Not so much of money mindedness. It means I’m truly able to have fun again. And smile from my heart after what seems like ages.

I’ve lost so much. Yet I didn’t realise I actually have so much in the first place and gained much more along the road. Indeed, I’m fortunate.

Happy Chinese New Year to all of you! May God bless you with a wonderful year ahead with lots of love, peace, happiness and good health :)
